The St Joseph’s Primary School Denman administration and library building was built with the Australian Federal Government’s Building the Education Revolution (BER) economic stimulus package funding (Stage 3). The school was small with around 60 students and the school’s administration, staff room, canteen and library were operating from demountable buildings which provided visitors with their first impression of the school. The school wanted to address these issues and replace all demountable buildings using their BER funding allocation while still achieving a high quality outcome and dynamic learning spaces.
The building programs were driven by the need to create strong connections with the existing school buildings and a perception of permanence to the community. Internal spaces are ordered by requirements for light, ventilation and visual connection to the external school environment.
