The conceptual framework of the project was to create a recreational space which many individuals and groups could enjoy simultaneously. We sought to create a pool and surrounds which consists of a wide variety of spaces, varying in size and scale, depth and edge condition, shade and sun.
The relationship of the built form to the context involved the positioning of a low scale element behind a natural dune area and amongst the holiday accommodation, while respecting view lines and privacy between uses. The existing journey to the beach was respected by providing a bridge over the new pool which in turn enhanced the three dimensional qualities of an otherwise strongly horizontal space.
